Early and Interceptive Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children have their first consultation with an orthodontist by age 7. However, if your child is younger than 7, and you or your dentist recognizes a potential orthodontic problem, it is appropriate, and recommended to schedule your child for their first check-up at a younger age. Depending on the type of orthodontic correction your child needs, treatment time and necessary appliances may vary.

At Byrne Orthodontics, we offer both stainless steel and ceramic braces. Both options have a low profile design, making them more comfortable and esthetic. Ceramic braces are tooth-colored, and provide an even more natural look. In addition to higher performance brackets, we also use less painful, more durable arch wires to straighten your teeth.

Invisalign Braces - Saratoga Springs, NY

Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®

Invisalign works to align your teeth and correct your bite by using a prescribed series of clear, removable trays. The aligners are virtually undetectable, very easy to use and comfortable to wear. Our orthodontists are certified by the Invisalign® company to treat patients with this convenient teeth straightening system. Incognito™

If you are seeking an esthetic orthodontic treatment option, but you don’t like the idea of clear aligners, lingual braces may be the solution. Surgical Orthodontics

For some adults, orthodontic treatment alone may not be sufficient to achieve complete orthodontic correction, including an esthetic, functional and healthy bite. In the case that an adult patient requires both orthodontic and surgical treatment, the orthodontist will treat the patient both before and after surgery to ensure the upper and lower teeth fit together and are aligned properly.

Retainers and Night Guards

Now that you’ve completed your orthodontic treatment, retainers are necessary to help maintain your beautiful, healthy smile. We offer fixed and removable retainers, as well as night guards. Depending on your needs and preferences, we’ll help you pick the best retainer for your smile. Because retainers are absolutely necessary to hold teeth in their correct alignment, and to stabilize the results of your orthodontic treatment, your first set of retainers is included in your treatment fee. Additionally, if you break or misplace your retainers, or simply need a replacement, we’ll give you a discount if you bring in your 3D models that we print right in our office!

Patient Questions

What is the fastest treatment option? How long does treatment last?

Treatment time depends on many factors, including the extent of the patient’s orthodontic correction and the type of treatment the patient receives. Fortunately, advances in the equipment and appliances we use have greatly reduced treatment time over the years. Additional factors that help reduce treatment time include proper brushing and flossing, omitting foods from your diet that will increase chances of breaking braces or decalcification, and keeping your scheduled appointments with your orthodontist.

What is the best treatment option for me?

After discussing your concerns with your orthodontist, he or she will assess your photographs and x-rays to determine the best course of treatment for you. The type and duration of treatment will be the result of an individualized treatment plan developed by your orthodontist.

Is there an ideal age for orthodontic treatment?

There is no “ideal” age for treatment. Although the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child get his or her first check-up with an orthodontist by age 7, chronological age is not the only factor to consider when deciding if a patient is ready for treatment. In fact, healthy teeth with healthy surrounding bone can be moved at any age.

If I don’t want traditional braces, what are my other options?

At Byrne Orthodontics, we offer several alternatives to traditional stainless-steel braces, including ceramic braces (tooth-colored braces), Invisalign®, and Incognito™ (lingual braces that are placed behind the teeth). At your initial consultation, one of our orthodontists will review all of your treatment options with you.
